On Samsung and Vivian Maier — Bigger Is Better and the Secret Street Photographer Poet of Suburbia

Am a bit busy these days and shooting a Samsung NX300. Not a shabby camera at all! But how does it compare to others — and more importantly, could NX be a system for you? You’ll soon have it answered right here on THEME. But first: As we all know, a robust DSLR does really deliver better images… Here’s Samsung’s scientific proof in the first video below. The second video is a beautiful hour-long BBC documentary on Vivian Maier, one of the most intriguing yet unknown photographers of the 21st century.

And here’s Vivian Maier. Vivian who?! A poet of suburbia, a Marry Poppins with a camera, a secret street photographer before the term was even invented.

Watch the documentary Who Took Nanny’s Pictures, the incredible story of a mysterious nanny who died in 2009 leaving behind a secret hoard — 150,000 mostly stunning photographs. Never seen in her lifetime, they were found by chance in a Chicago storage locker and auctioned off cheaply.

The documentary is best enjoyed in a relaxed position with a good glass of wine in your hand. Unfortunately, the video’s last 12 minutes or so are cut off. Hope to soon post the full version.
